I wanted to do something good and make the world a better place. So I joined the DFW Awareness Walk for The Ehlers-Danlos Society.

After years of struggling with chronic pain, I gave birth to a beautiful little boy. I had no idea that my disease would progress swiftly during pregnancy and leave me fully disabled afterwards. I went many years being overlooked by doctors, treated like a hypochondriac by friends and family, and often struggling alone. I had little hope that anything would get better, until a doctor finally suspected Ehlers-Danlos. In the months following my diagnosis I was able to build a knowledgeable team of doctors and finally make some progress with my health. I have a long way to go, and there are some things that can’t ever be fixed, but finding a knowledgeable and caring doctor really saved me.

By spreading awareness and funding research, I know that we can help others who are suffering. It took 15 years of pain and illness to get a diagnosis. I hope we can keep others from having to struggle for so long before getting treatment and finding ways to make their lives better

The Ehlers-Danlos syndromes are a group of connective tissue disorders that can be inherited and are varied both in how they affect the body and in their genetic causes. They are generally characterized by joint hypermobility (joints that stretch further than normal), skin hyperextensibility (skin that can be stretched further than normal), and tissue fragility.
