I have joined the May Awareness Month Challenge to spread awareness and raise funds to support The Ehlers-Danlos Society by participating in the #myEDSchallenge

Earlier this year, I was diagnosed with EDS Type III or also known as Hypermobile Ehler-Danlos Syndrome. In order to get diagnosed, my family and I spent two years going from doctor to doctor hoping to get some answers as to why it felt my body was slowly but surely falling apart. And when I say falling apart, I literally mean falling apart. Due to my EDS, my shoulders, hips, and most of my joints in general had started to subluxate and dislocate daily, causing me pain on a daily basis.

And though two years may seem like a long time to get diagnosed, most sufferers with EDS normally wait for DECADES for a diagnosis due to a general lack of awareness towards this disorder. The lack of a diagnosis, more often then not, leads to the condition worsening, leading to permanent and irreversible damage on the body. This disorder has no cure, and the only way to stop it from progressing is through preventive measures which you cannot access without a diagnosis.

And that is why I am reaching out to you today so we can make a difference by spreading awareness towards this rare connective tissue disorder, hopefully raise money to fund research about EDS and change the future of those with EDS.

The foundation that will receive the donations is called the Ehler-Danlos Society which is a global community dedicated to saving and improving lives of those affected by the Ehler-Danlos syndromes, as well as other hypermobility spectrum disorders. Their goal is world-wide awareness and to better the lives of all who suffer from these conditions no matter where they maybe in the world.

The Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a group of heritable connective tissue disorders that produce a spectrum of complex problems across multiple systems of the body. Symptoms that are often seen across all types are hypermobile joints, (that can move farther than normal), stretchy skin, & fragile tissues. Each case is unique and severity may range dramatically, even within families.
